Soy

Soy moves through a concentrated set of crushers and traders before export, which means the company named on a shipping document is often several steps removed from the land the crop was grown on. Evidence questions about soy are usually questions about that gap.

The evidence chain

  1. Identify the exporting legal entity and confirm its registration status.
  2. Establish whether the exporter is on any public sanction, debarment, or labour register.
  3. Establish the production origin, which for soy usually requires the supplier to supply it rather than a public record to reveal it.
  4. Where a property registration is supplied, check it against public deforestation observations.

What this does not establish

  • Public trade records generally do not link an export shipment to a specific farm or plot.
  • Where origin is self-declared, no public registry independently verifies it.
  • Intermediate aggregation between farm and crusher is typically not publicly recorded at all.
